This bill amends the retirement and social security law to allow members of a public retirement system in New York who are disabled veterans to retire without a reduction in their retirement benefit upon reaching at least 55 years of age and completing at least 13 years of credited service in the retirement system. The term "disabled veteran" is defined as a veteran who is certified by the U.S. Veterans' Administration or a military department as having a service-connected disability of at least 60% that was incurred or aggravated during active military service. The costs for this early retirement provision will be paid by the state and all employers participating in the retirement system.
