This bill enacts the "Monarch Preservation Plan" that requires the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to take feasible actions to conserve monarch butterflies and the unique habitats they depend on for their successful migration. These actions may include habitat restoration on DEC and state-owned lands, education programs, and voluntary agreements with private landowners. The DEC is also required to partner with various entities and use the best available science when undertaking conservation efforts, such as restoring monarch caterpillar habitat, controlling non-native weeds and pests, and increasing the number of partnerships to create, restore, or enhance monarch butterfly habitat.
