This bill directs the Secretary of State to seek to enter into negotiations with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office to rename it the "Taiwan Representative Office." It also states that any reference to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in U.S. government documents shall be deemed a reference to the Taiwan Representative Office. The bill further clarifies that this does not entail restoring diplomatic relations with Taiwan or altering the U.S. position on the international status of Taiwan, consistent with the Taiwan Relations Act and the Six Assurances.
