AN ACT to amend the correction law and the social services law, in relation to the enrollment of incarcerated individuals in the medical assistance for needy persons program

This bill amends the Correction Law and the Social Services Law to require the enrollment of eligible incarcerated individuals in the Medical Assistance for Needy Persons program (Medicaid) or other medical insurance programs, unless they were already enrolled at the time of incarceration or are ineligible or do not wish to enroll. The bill also requires the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision and local correctional facilities to assist with the enrollment process and to provide incarcerated individuals with their enrollment documents upon release. Additionally, the bill requires the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, in consultation with the Department of Health, to report annually on the enrollment of incarcerated individuals in medical assistance programs.
