This bill amends the education law to require the dissemination of written materials regarding child access prevention and the safe storage of firearms to students and/or persons in a parental relationship to such students at the beginning of each semester or quarter of the regular school year, starting on and after July 1, 2024. The Department of Education is responsible for developing model content for these materials, which must include information on relevant New York laws and resources related to child access prevention, safe firearm storage, and firearm violence prevention. Counties are required to submit information on local laws and regulations to the Department, which will then be incorporated into the model content. Schools are required to provide this information to parents and guardians at the start of each school year, and maintain it on their websites.
