This bill requires the Secretary of Defense to develop a strategy to counter fentanyl trafficking in the United States. The strategy would leverage existing authorities to detect and monitor fentanyl trafficking, support operations by other federal agencies and law enforcement, coordinate with the Department of Defense, provide military-unique capabilities, engage with foreign security forces, and evaluate existing policies and resources related to countering fentanyl trafficking. The bill also requires the Secretary to submit a report on law enforcement reimbursement for goods and services provided by the Department of Defense for counterdrug and counter-transnational organized crime operations on the southern border. Additionally, the bill directs the Secretary to seek to enhance cooperation with defense officials in Mexico to target, disrupt, and degrade transnational criminal organizations within Mexico that traffic fentanyl.
