AN ACT to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to rechargeable battery recycling
AI Summary
This bill amends the environmental conservation law to expand the definition of "rechargeable battery" to include batteries used as the principal electric power source for electric scooters or bicycles with electric assist. It requires battery manufacturers to implement or participate in an approved plan for the collection, transportation, and recycling of rechargeable batteries. The bill also allows cities with a population of one million or more to enforce the provisions of the law through their own agencies. Additionally, it directs the Department of Environmental Conservation to promulgate rules and regulations to ensure the safe storage of rechargeable batteries and require retailers to coordinate with battery manufacturers to regularly remove batteries from their locations.
