This bill establishes the Center for Autoimmune and Blood Disorder Research (CABDR) at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center. The CABDR will allow for collaboration among medical professionals to provide insights and approaches to understanding autoimmune and blood disorder diseases, such as sickle cell disease, lupus, and celiac, and improving treatment methods. The bill appropriates $300,000 to the CABDR to conduct research, including basic, clinical, social, translational, technological, epidemiological, and behavioral research on these diseases, and the center is authorized to apply for additional funding from philanthropic sources.
