This bill, the Protect Our Law enforcement with Immigration Control and Enforcement Act of 2023 (POLICE Act of 2023), proposes to make the assault of a law enforcement officer a deportable offense under the Immigration and Nationality Act. Specifically, the bill would allow for the deportation of any alien who has been convicted of, admitted to, or committed acts that constitute the essential elements of an offense involving the assault of a law enforcement officer. The bill defines "assault" based on the jurisdiction where the act occurred and "law enforcement officer" as a person authorized to apprehend, arrest, or prosecute individuals for criminal violations, or to serve as a firefighter or other first responder.
