This bill establishes the New York State Veteran Student Loan Forgiveness Program, which awards up to $10,000 per year for five years to eligible applicants who have graduated from a New York state college or university, have outstanding student loan debt, are employed full-time in New York state, and agree to reside in the state for at least five years. The program prioritizes applicants who have previously received the award and remain eligible, as well as those who demonstrate economic need or have a disability rating of 40% or higher from the federal Department of Veterans Affairs or Department of Defense. The bill authorizes the corporation to promulgate rules and regulations necessary for the implementation of the program.
