This bill amends the civil service law to require background checks, including state and national criminal history record checks, for police transfer candidates, except for current employees, those transferring under specific provisions, or those on preferred or eligible lists. The bill excludes these background check requirements for positions other than police officer as defined in the criminal procedure law. The bill takes effect immediately.
