This bill, titled the "Sunshine in Litigation Act," amends the Civil Practice Law and Rules to prohibit courts from entering orders or judgments that conceal public hazards or information that could help protect the public from such hazards. The bill defines a "public hazard" as any condition that has caused injury or creates a risk of injury in the future. It allows trade secrets and other confidential information unrelated to public hazards to be protected, and provides standing for substantially affected persons or representatives of the estate to challenge orders, judgments, agreements, or contracts that conceal public hazards. The bill also declares any agreement or contract with the purpose or effect of concealing information related to the settlement of claims against governmental entities to be void and contrary to public policy.
