This bill requires insurers and the State Health Benefits Program (SHBP) to provide coverage for medically necessary expenses incurred in screening for ovarian cancer for symptomatic women or women at risk of ovarian cancer. The coverage must include, at a minimum, an annual pelvic examination, an ultrasound, and blood testing for cancer markers. The bill applies to various types of health insurance plans, including hospital service corporation contracts, medical service corporation contracts, health service corporation contracts, individual and group health insurance policies, individual and small employer health benefits plans, and health maintenance organization contracts. The provisions of the bill take effect 180 days after enactment and apply to policies or contracts issued or renewed on or after the effective date.
