This bill amends Section 44518 of Title 49, United States Code, to direct the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator to continue the operation of the Advanced Materials Center of Excellence (the Center) until March 1, 2023. The Center will focus on applied research and training on the safe use of composites and advanced materials in aircraft structures, as well as research and development into aircraft structure crash worthiness, passenger safety, and safe and accessible air travel for individuals with disabilities, including materials required to facilitate safe wheelchair restraint systems on commercial aircraft. The bill also requires the Center to promote collaboration among member universities, the FAA, the commercial aircraft industry, and other stakeholders, and to establish goals to advance technology, improve engineering practices, and facilitate continuing education in relevant areas of study. Additionally, the bill authorizes up to $20 million in funding for the Center for each fiscal year from 2024 through 2028.
