This bill, the Improving DATA in Public Health Act, aims to enhance public health data accessibility and sharing. It does this by: 1. Allowing the Secretary of Health and Human Services to designate data and technology standards to improve the exchange of electronic health information for activities like electronic case reporting, syndromic surveillance, and reporting of vital statistics and test orders/results. 2. Authorizing the Secretary to require reporting of public health and healthcare data to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention by providers, labs, and state/local health departments, while collaborating with them to minimize reporting burdens. 3. Ensuring data collected is accessible in a timely manner to state, local, and tribal health authorities, while protecting confidentiality and exempting certain data from public disclosure. 4. Establishing an advisory committee to advise on implementing the data reporting and sharing requirements. 5. Providing grants to identify and disseminate best practices for collecting electronic health information, including demographic data, to address health disparities. 6. Exempting certain CDC data collection from the Paperwork Reduction Act to facilitate public health investigations and surveillance.
