This bill amends the Public School Code of 1949 to provide for Pennsylvania student journalism protection. It requires school entities (such as school districts and charter schools) to adopt policies that protect the free speech rights of student journalists in school-sponsored media. The bill prohibits school officials from prior restraint of student expression, except for forms of expression that are libelous, slanderous, obscene, violate privacy, or substantially disrupt the school's operations. The bill also protects student-media advisors from being dismissed or disciplined for actions taken to protect student journalists' conduct that is consistent with the school's policies.
