This bill amends the Food, Agriculture, Conservation, and Trade Act of 1990 to include research on microplastics in land-applied biosolids on farmland as a high-priority research and extension area. Specifically, the bill allows for research grants to be made to conduct surveys and collect data on microplastic concentration, develop wastewater treatment techniques to filter out or biodegrade microplastics, analyze the impact of microplastics on agricultural crops and soil health, and better understand the fate and transport of microplastics on farmland. The bill also provides a definition for the term "microplastic" as a plastic or plastic-coated particle less than 5 millimeters in any dimension. Additionally, the bill reauthorizes certain high-priority research and extension initiatives under the Food, Agriculture, Conservation, and Trade Act of 1990 through 2028.
