This bill amends the Federal Agriculture Improvement and Reform Act of 1996 to ensure that producers who rely on acequia systems (traditional community-based water distribution systems in New Mexico) have access to drought protections and disaster assistance programs. The bill also exempts routine maintenance and minor improvements of acequias on federal lands from requiring special use permits. Additionally, the bill requires the Department of Agriculture to report on the number of producers relying on acequias, the assistance provided to them, their ability to access USDA programs, and any targeted assistance programs for these producers.
