This bill requires owners of certain buildings, such as acute care facilities, assisted living facilities, boarding houses, county correctional facilities, hospitals, multiple dwellings, nursing homes, public housing, rooming houses, and state correctional facilities, to test their drinking water for the presence of Legionella bacteria at least once a year. The water sampling and testing must be done using best practices developed by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), and the testing must be performed by a DEP-accredited laboratory. If the test results exceed the standard for Legionella bacteria set by the DEP, the building owner must notify the residents or users and undertake remediation efforts within 30 days, which must be completed within six months. The DEP has 18 months to adopt rules and regulations to implement the provisions of this bill.
