This bill, the Ernest Peltz Accrued Veterans Benefits Act, amends Title 38 of the United States Code to make improvements to laws relating to the payment of certain benefits administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs that are affected by the death of a beneficiary. Specifically, the bill changes the effective date for reductions or discontinuances of compensation, dependency and indemnity compensation, and pension benefits due to the death of a payee. In the case of a pension under an existing rating or decision, the effective date for such reductions or discontinuances would be the last day of the month in which the payee's death occurred, rather than the date of death. The bill also clarifies the payment of benefits for the month of a payee's death. These amendments apply to deaths occurring on or after the date of enactment of the bill.
