This bill establishes a 3-year pilot program called the Massachusetts Farm to School Incentive Program, which will reimburse school food authorities (SFAs) and licensed early education and care programs for money spent to purchase food from local farms, fishers, and producers. The program will provide $1 in reimbursement for every $3 spent on products grown or caught in Massachusetts, and $1 for every $5 spent on products originating from other New England states. The bill also creates an advisory committee to assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the program, and requires the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to promulgate regulations within 9 months of the bill's effective date.
