This bill prohibits the use of cannabis, or marijuana, in public places in New York state, unless the local government approves designated areas for its use. The bill imposes a $125 fine for violating this public use prohibition, to be paid to the local government where the violation occurred. The Cannabis Control Board, in coordination with local governments, will establish regulations and guidelines for implementing and enforcing this law, including defining what constitutes a "public place" and designating approved areas for cannabis use.
