This bill, the Hospital and ASC Price Transparency Act of 2023, would require certain healthcare facilities under the Medicare program, including hospitals, critical access hospitals, rural emergency hospitals, and ambulatory surgical centers, to disclose certain information related to their charges and prices for items and services. The bill sets forth requirements for these facilities to compile and make public their standard charges, discounted cash prices, and (in some cases) payer-specific negotiated rates. The bill also establishes a process for the Secretary of Health and Human Services to monitor compliance and impose civil monetary penalties for noncompliance. Additionally, the bill requires the Secretary to publish information on hospitals' compliance with the price transparency requirements.
