This bill requires the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, its divisions and authorities, as well as regional transit authorities, to conduct vulnerability assessments and adaptation cost assessments for their transportation infrastructure, equipment, and facilities. These assessments will identify climate change risks and prioritize adaptation strategies, with a focus on environmental justice communities. The assessments must be completed within 18 months and updated every 2 years, with progress reports provided to the state legislature. The bill also allows the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority to fund capital investments identified as priority adaptation strategies in their vulnerability assessments.
