This bill establishes the Chesapeake National Recreation Area as a new unit of the National Park System to preserve, protect, interpret, and provide public enjoyment of the resources related to the Chesapeake Bay and surrounding areas. The bill defines key terms, sets forth the purposes of the recreation area, establishes its boundaries, authorizes land acquisition, allows for cooperative agreements and partner site agreements, tasks the Secretary of the Interior with administering the area, requires a management plan, and creates an advisory commission to provide recommendations. The bill also permanently authorizes funding for the existing Chesapeake Gateways program.
