AN ACT to amend public health law, in relation to requiring cytomegalovirus screening for every newborn

AI Summary

This bill requires cytomegalovirus (CMV) screening for every newborn in New York using a urine polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. The bill removes the existing provision that allowed parents to object to the CMV screening. The bill also authorizes the Commissioner of Health to approve the use of another diagnostic test for CMV if it is determined to be equivalent or better than the urine PCR test. The bill will take effect 180 days after it becomes law, and the necessary rules and regulations can be implemented before the effective date.
