Bill Summary

AN ACT To direct the Secretary of Commerce to conduct a study on the feasibility of manufacturing in the United States products for critical infrastructure sectors, and for other purposes.

AI Summary

This bill directs the Secretary of Commerce to conduct a study on the feasibility of manufacturing products for critical infrastructure sectors within the United States. The study will identify products that are in high demand and being imported due to manufacturing, material, or supply chain constraints in the U.S., analyze the costs and benefits of manufacturing these products domestically, and determine which products can feasibly be manufactured in rural areas, industrial parks, or rural industrial parks. The Secretary must submit a report to Congress with the study's results and recommendations for domestic manufacturing of the identified products. The bill does not grant the Secretary authority to compel the provision of information for the study. Critical infrastructure sectors are defined as the 16 designated sectors identified in Presidential Policy Directive 21.
