This bill requires comprehensive coverage for the treatment of obesity, including coverage for prevention and wellness, nutrition counseling, intensive behavioral therapy, bariatric surgery, and FDA-approved anti-obesity medication. The coverage criteria for FDA-approved anti-obesity medications cannot be more restrictive than the FDA-approved indications. Additionally, the coverage for obesity treatment must be on par with the coverage for any other illness or condition, and insurers must provide notice to covered persons regarding the required coverage. The bill applies to policies issued, delivered, renewed, and/or modified on or after the effective date.
