This bill, the Augmentative and Alternative Communication Centers of Excellence and National Technical Assistance Act (AACCENT Act), aims to support national training, technical assistance, and resource centers to ensure that all individuals with significant expressive communication disabilities have access to the augmentative and alternative communication they need to interact with others, learn, work, socialize, and participate fully in life in the United States. The bill establishes a network of National Resource Centers on Augmentative and Alternative Communication to increase access to communication tools and supports, build capacity of individuals with disabilities and service providers, promote awareness and implementation of relevant laws and policies, support leadership and self-advocacy skills, improve data collection, and raise societal awareness.
