This bill, the Drought Assistance Improvement Act, aims to improve drought-related disaster assistance programs within the Department of Agriculture. Specifically, it amends the Livestock Forage Disaster Program to provide assistance to livestock producers who experience at least 4 consecutive weeks of reduced grazing during the normal grazing period, down from the previous 8 consecutive weeks requirement. Additionally, the bill expands the Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honey Bees, and Farm-Raised Fish Program to include documentation standards for collecting data, production of crawfish, and defining loss conditions due to drought. The bill also allows for assistance to farmers who have experienced loss of crawfish harvest due to adverse weather or drought.
