AN ACT to amend the general business law, in relation to requiring publishers of books created with the use of generative artificial intelligence to contain a disclosure of such use

This bill requires publishers of books created wholly or partially with the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) to disclose such use before the completion of the sale. The disclosure must be made conspicuously on the cover of the book. The bill applies to all printed and digital books consisting of text, pictures, audio, puzzles, games, or any combination thereof, regardless of the target age group or audience. Generative AI is defined as the use of machine learning technology, software, automation, and algorithms to perform tasks, make rules, and make predictions based on existing data sets and instructions.
