This bill creates a public records exemption for the personal identifying information in applications submitted to the Department of Legal Affairs by individuals seeking compensation through the Dozier School for Boys and Okeechobee School Victim Compensation Program. The exemption is intended to protect victims from further trauma and the possibility of harassment if their status as victims or the nature of the abuse they suffered is made public. The bill also allows the release of this information to the Department of Education for the purpose of facilitating the award of standard high school diplomas to persons compensated through the program. The exemption is subject to the Open Government Sunset Review Act and will be repealed in 2029 unless reviewed and reenacted by the legislature.
