This bill amends the general business law to require that every newspaper, magazine, or other publication printed or electronically published in New York state, which contains content (such as articles, periodicals, photographs, videos, or other visual images) that was wholly or partially composed or authored through the use of "generative artificial intelligence" or other information communication technology, must conspicuously indicate on the top of the page or webpage that such content was composed using artificial intelligence or other technology. Generative artificial intelligence is defined in the bill as machine learning technology, software, automation, and algorithms used to perform tasks or make predictions based on existing data sets and instructions, without significant human oversight. The bill aims to increase transparency around the use of artificial intelligence in media and publishing.
