AN ACT to create the call center jobs retention act; to provide for the powers and duties of certain state governmental officers and entities; to impose certain duties on certain employers; and to prescribe civil sanctions.

AI Summary

This bill, titled the "call center jobs retention act," requires employers who operate a call center, defined as a central office primarily for handling customer phone requests or inquiries and employing at least 50 individuals, to notify the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (the "Department") at least 30 days before relocating a call center or a significant portion of its operations (at least 30% of call volume) to a foreign country, or if they close a call center and contract with a foreign entity to provide the same services. Employers who fail to provide this notice are subject to a civil fine of up to $10,000, with the fine going to the general fund. Furthermore, the Department must create and publish a public registry on its website every six months, starting six months after the bill becomes law, listing employers who have relocated or closed call center operations as described, along with details such as the date, number of jobs affected, and the new location.
