This bill, the Military Housing Wait Times Accountability Act, directs the Secretary of Defense to provide temporary housing accommodations for military families who are placed on a waitlist for on-base housing for more than 10 days after arriving at a new location due to a permanent change of station. The temporary accommodations must be appropriate for the size and composition of the family and not exceed the basic allowance for housing for the member. The bill also requires the Secretary of Defense to submit a report to Congress with installation-specific data on the number of military families on housing waitlists, the time they spend waiting for accommodations, an analysis of the factors creating the need for such waitlists, and an assessment of the causes of waitlist durations exceeding 10 days.
