This bill proposes a constitutional amendment that would require each local board of education in Alabama to adopt a policy mandating public K-12 schools under their jurisdiction to broadcast the first stanza of the national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner," at least once per week during school hours. The bill provides that schools can either play an archived recording of the anthem from the Library of Congress or have a school-sanctioned band, choral program, vocal group, or vocalist perform it from the sheet music also available on the Library's website. The proposed amendment must be approved by a majority of qualified voters in the state.
