This bill amends the Illinois Insurance Code to require individual or group accident and health insurance policies issued or renewed in the state after June 1, 2024 to provide coverage for expenses related to "standard fertility preservation services" and any follow-up services. Standard fertility preservation services are defined as procedures based on current evidence-based standards of care established by medical associations, including cryopreservation. The bill prohibits insurers from discriminating in coverage based on a person's expected life, disability, medical dependency, quality of life, or other health conditions, as well as personal characteristics like age, sex, sexual orientation, or marital status. It also requires the coverage to be provided without exclusions, limitations, or other restrictions that differ from those for other prescription medications. The bill makes conforming changes to other state laws to ensure the fertility preservation coverage requirements apply to state employees, county and municipal self-insured health plans, school employee health plans, health maintenance organizations, and the state Medicaid program.
