This bill amends Section 4509 of the Insurance Code of 1956 to allow for the sharing of information concerning suspected or completed insurance fraud. The key provisions of the bill are: 1. It provides immunity from liability for individuals who report or provide information about suspected or completed insurance fraud to the Insurance Bureau, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), the National Insurance Crime Bureau, or any other government agency or organization involved in detecting and preventing insurance fraud, as long as the information provided is not known to be false. 2. It extends this same immunity to insurers, their officers, employees, or agents, and private persons who cooperate with or provide evidence or information regarding suspected insurance fraud to the authorized agencies mentioned above. 3. It also grants immunity from civil liability, such as libel or slander, to the authorized agencies, the NAIC, the National Insurance Crime Bureau, and their employees or agents, for publishing reports or bulletins related to their official activities, unless they know the information to be false. 4. The bill clarifies that it does not abrogate or modify any existing common law or statutory privileges or immunities.
