This bill, the NRC Mission Alignment Act, directs the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to update its mission statement to ensure that the licensing and regulation of nuclear energy activities are conducted in an efficient manner that does not unnecessarily limit the potential of nuclear energy to improve the general welfare and the benefits of nuclear energy technology to society. The bill also amends the Energy Reorganization Act of 1974 to require the Director of the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation to establish and maintain techniques and guidance for evaluating applications for nuclear reactor licenses to support efficient, timely, and predictable reviews, while obtaining approval from the Commission for any policy-related changes to these processes.
