This bill establishes a new nonimmigrant visa category, called the "Family Purpose Visa", for relatives of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents to enter the United States temporarily for family purposes. The bill defines "family purposes" as any visit by a relative for a social, occasional, or any other purpose, and "relative" as the spouse, child, parent, sibling, or other close family member of a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. To qualify for this visa, the relative must obtain temporary travel medical insurance, express intent to leave the U.S. after their authorized stay of up to 90 days per calendar year, and have a sponsor who submits an undertaking of financial support. The bill also restricts individuals from petitioning for a relative's admission if that relative previously overstayed their authorized period, unless certain exceptions apply.
