This bill amends sections 8501 and 8507 of the Revised Judicature Act of 1961 to modify the qualifications for district court magistrates. The key provisions are: (1) requiring district court magistrates to reside in or be employed in the county they are appointed to or an adjoining county, rather than just being a registered elector in the district; (2) allowing the chief judge of the 36th district to appoint up to 6 district court magistrates, who serve at the pleasure of the chief judge; and (3) allowing magistrates to serve temporarily in another county within the same district or in an adjoining district under certain circumstances.
