This bill establishes the Commission on National Agricultural Statistics Service Modernization to study and provide recommendations on how the data collection and reporting processes of the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) can be modernized and streamlined. The Commission will have 11 members, including representatives from the NASS, Economic Research Service, and Bureau of Labor Statistics, as well as members appointed by the Senate and House Agriculture Committees. The Commission is tasked with examining ways to improve the quality and transparency of NASS statistics, increase producer response rates, and utilize more real-time data. The Commission will report its findings and recommendations to Congress within 3 years, and the Commission will terminate on September 30, 2028. The bill authorizes $1 million in funding for fiscal year 2024 to support the Commission's work.
