This bill requires certain healthcare facilities, including hospitals and birthing centers, to develop policies and procedures that authorize patients to select a doula (a trained professional who provides continuous support during labor and childbirth) to accompany them within the facility's premises. The bill mandates that these facilities provide written copies of the policies and procedures to healthcare providers, patients, and any other person upon request, as well as post a summary of the policies on their website. Additionally, the bill requires each facility to designate a staff member to serve as a liaison between the facility and doulas or doula organizations to provide information about the facility's policies. The Commissioner of Health is authorized to adopt rules and regulations to effectuate the purposes of the act.
