This bill makes several key changes: 1. It allows certain PERS members to continue receiving their pension while still earning a salary, including the Chief of Staff or Chief Counsel to the Governor and those holding elective public office. Their pension will be calculated based only on prior employment, not their current elected position. 2. It makes certain local administrators and prosecutors, such as the deputy director or counsel at the State Commission of Investigation, eligible for PERS membership. 3. It permits State employees not covered by collective bargaining to enroll in the same negotiated health plans as those represented by the Communications Workers of America. 4. It provides a process for business administrators participating in the Defined Contribution Retirement Program to instead enroll in PERS, with provisions to transfer their existing retirement funds. 5. It allows elected officials who are members of multiple state-administered retirement systems to retire from one system while remaining an active member in the system tied to their elective office.
