This Joint Resolution designates November of each year as "Transgender Awareness Month" in New Jersey to promote understanding of the challenges transgender individuals face, such as discrimination, violence, and social isolation, while also celebrating their resilience and contributions to society. The resolution acknowledges that transgender individuals, whose gender identity differs from their sex assigned at birth, experience significant hardships, including higher rates of homelessness, negative healthcare experiences, and violence, and that many face legislative efforts that restrict their rights. It also recognizes existing "Transgender Awareness Week" and "Transgender Day of Remembrance" in New Jersey, established by previous resolutions, and requests the Governor to annually issue a proclamation encouraging public observance of Transgender Awareness Month.
