This bill amends Section 233.014 of the Texas Election Code to change the requirements for trials in the contest of an election on a proposed constitutional amendment. The key provisions are: (1) the trial date must be held between the 50th and 180th day after the contested election, (2) the court must issue its judgment within 5 days of the trial date, (3) any appeal of the contest must be filed within 5 days of the final judgment, (4) the appellate court must render its judgment within 30 days of the final trial court judgment, and (5) the Texas Supreme Court must bring the case to final disposition within 30 days of the appellate court judgment. The bill applies to elections on proposed constitutional amendments held on or after November 1, 2023 and does not affect prior actions taken under the previous law.
