This bill amends certain fire safety statutes to update licensure and equipment requirements, and liability, fee, and penalty provisions. Specifically, it: - Requires smoke-sensitive alarm devices to be installed in residential structures of up to two households, as per regulations established by the Commissioner of Community Affairs, rather than National Fire Protection Association standards. - Changes requirements for certificates of occupancy, inspection, and compliance related to smoke alarms (but removes the previous requirement for portable fire extinguishers). - Increases the maximum fine for violations from $500 to $500 per violation. - Revises provisions related to the certification and licensing of fire inspectors and fire officials, including new requirements for licensure. - Modifies penalty provisions, including continuing liability for unabated violations and unpaid fees or penalties following a change in ownership or tenancy. - Updates notification and service of notice requirements to include both owners and operators/tenants.
