This bill changes the number of signatures required on primary election petitions to nominate certain municipal candidates in certain municipalities. Specifically, it reduces the minimum number of signatures required for candidates in municipalities with a population less than 7,000, or in any ward or election district of any municipality, from the standard 25 signatures to at least 5% of the total votes cast by the political party in the last preceding primary election for the General Assembly. Additionally, the bill requires that for a person to be nominated or elected to a political party position by write-in or pasted votes, they must receive at least the number of votes equal to the signature requirement for a candidate nominating petition.
