This bill creates a new section in Missouri law that prohibits health carriers or health benefit plans from requiring an enrollee to take a different drug deemed more appropriate by the health carrier or plan in order to receive coverage, unless the enrollee's healthcare provider gives written approval for the change and the change is in the interest of the enrollee's health. The bill does not apply to the substitution of interchangeable biological products or to coverage of prescription drugs restricted via step therapy protocols.
