This bill modifies provisions relating to alternative therapies and treatments, including psilocybin. It establishes a legal framework for Missouri veterans aged 21 and older who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, major depressive disorder, substance use disorders, or require end-of-life care to acquire, use, and possess psilocybin for therapeutic purposes, as long as certain conditions are met, such as having a bona fide physician-patient relationship and using a trained facilitator. The bill also provides funding for research on the use and efficacy of psilocybin for these conditions, and it protects healthcare providers from liability for participating in or referring patients to the psilocybin program. Additionally, the bill expands the permitted uses of settlement funds from opioid-related lawsuits to include funding for research on alternative therapies, such as psilocybin, for Missouri veterans.
